Well, it’s finally happened. My little girl just had her heart broken for the very first time. Well, maybe not the first time, but the first time when Mom wasn’t around to help and it was just her and me. I guess my little Squeaker isn’t so little any more.
It’s tough being a parent and seeing the look of pain on the face of your child. I wish there was something I could do to take her pain away. As it is, all I can do is be there for her, listen to her, and try to comfort her as best I can.
My daughter is an amazing person and I’m so glad to have her in my life. I can’t imagine what I did in my life to deserve her, but there she is. One night, she can dress up for the Navy Ball and be ready to go in less than 30 minutes. The whole night, everyone was asking me who she was (as if they couldn’t tell). Everyone said how much older she looked than she really is.

The next night, we created a plaster cast of her face in order to make homemade latex prostetics for a nightmare version of Piglet because that’s what she wanted to be for Halloween.

She’s been in dance for years now, she’s been a cheerleader, she’s been in colorguard, she worte the choreography for her colorguard last year! She plays at least three instruments, she will roll up her sleeves and get dirty with me in the garage, she will clean up and help in the kitchen when I’m cooking or baking something. She even makes her own pasta from scratch! She has performed with the Penn State Lionettes Dance Team two years in a row! She was chosen as a Premiere Performer for the National Beta convention last year in Savannah, GA. She auditioned for a junior class of Drum Corps last year and was selected. The only reason she didn’t go was because she didn’t tell us she’d auditioned before her acceptance letter had come in and we weren’t financially prepared. Seriously world, watch out! This girl is going to stand you on your ear! Consider yourself warned!
Most Dads would probably say, wait until I get my hands on that kid, etc. Yes, I’m upset that this jerk she met on the internet hurt her, but I’m not willing to go to jail over it. If I ever had the chance (and I probably never will), all I would really do is tell him how bad he screwed up. This girl is the triple-threat! I don’t think there’s a thing she couldn’t do if she put her mind to it and, I’m not just saying that because I’m her Dad.
The only thing I could think to tell her to comfort her was, “No one in this world can make you inferior without your permission.” I hope she understands how amazing she is and how bad this kid screwed up. This girl could literally do anything she wants to, but it really ticks me off to see it all come crashing down because of the comments of one individual.
I hope she understands what I was trying to tell her; our society is all based on what we think other people think about us. I want her to understand that it doesn’t matter what others think of you, or what you think others think of you (distorted thinking). It’s all about what you think of yourself. If you’re confident, you are beautiful.
