Our new area has so many things going on in it. Just within the last week, we’ve done so many things; life has been busy of late.
Fred
Wednesday night, I had an appointment in Fredericksburg. Most of the people we’ve met call it either Fred or Fred-Vegas. I didn’t know the area of town well, so I got there early to find a parking spot and ensure that I was on time for my appointment. My appointment was in the historic part of Fred which goes back to colonial times. It was so cool walking up and down the street looking at all the shops and old buildings that have been kept up by the Fred historical society.

A lot of the shops have signs in them showing all the goings on in the area and a lot were decorated for Halloween. There was a little Irish shop there that I went in for a bit that was super cool; I’m going to have to go back and check more of the shops out when I have time.
After my appointment, I called Adrianne who was supposed to meet me for dinner in the area and she said that I should video chat with her. I did and Sarah was there with her. She drove all the way in from The Burg to visit with us over the fall break. We have a rule that she’s supposed to call us when she’s riding her bike somewhere and to call us when she gets there. To keep it a surprise, she called our friend, Ed, to let him know that she was coming. Unfortunately, Ed didn’t know what neither of us were at the camper when she got there. Sarah had to drive all the way back out to Fred after finding out where we were. We had dinner in historic Fred and went back to the camper.
The next day, Sarah went to Adrianne’s school to help her with math night and they went to Strangeways Brewing Company to meet with the rest of our group for the weekly trivia night there. I had made other plans with Ed to go to Ashland, VA to visit a haunt. The day after, all my co-workers were gushing about meeting Sarah for the first time.
Red Vein
Ed and I have been doing haunt stuff for a few years now. We share a love of Halloween amongst other things. He and his brother-in-law put together a haunt every year in Suffolk. Ed and Eric’s haunt ~~> https://www.facebook.com/NightmareKILLeidoscope/
Make sure you click through the photos in each slide show to see some of the Red Vein haunt.
He found out about this haunt near Richmond, VA and asked if I wanted to go with him to their no-slaughter-night. This is basically a behind-the-scenes tour of the haunt with no actors and no jump scares. The haunt has staff members stationed throughout the haunt to answer questions. It took us about an hour-and-a-half to walk through the entire thing and it was epic!
At first, I thought it would be cool to go back to the haunt on a normal (re: not no-slaughter) night, but after it got dark, and with how long the haunt is, I don’t think I could handle it. There were parts of it that creeped me out and there were no cast members jumping out at us every twist and turn. At one point, I told Ed that I’d watched enough Twilight Zone to know that we were going to get killed and our corpses would become part of the haunt if we didn’t get out anytime soon. The road leading to the haunt was VA route 666; you just can’t make this stuff up.
Talking to the people that work there, they told us that it’s almost a year-round event for them. They start planning in April after a big haunt trade show that happens every year, then they start planning and building and working on updating the haunt for October.
They had something called a Vortex Tube. It was a room with a catwalk going through the middle of it, and a tube surrounding the catwalk. There were lights on the tube and as the tube rotated around the catwalk, it made you feel like the room was turning upside down. These people have sunk millions of dollars into this haunt, and it’s well worth going to see. If you’re in the area, check it out…if you dare.
Here’s a video walkthrough of the major parts (not all of it) that I found on YouTube after we’d done the no-slaughter night:
House
On Saturday, we got up and went to the house. We weren’t supposed to be able to go in and see the house this close to closing, but we explained to our realtor, Sarah, that our daughter, Sarah, had come to visit us as a surprise and asked if we could see the house. So she was kind enough to let us into the house for a few hours so we could see how it’s shaping up and show it off to our Sarah.
They’re putting the final touches on the house right now. We’re about two weeks away from closing. We’ve already signed the papers for closing on the house at the shore. We dropped those off at UPS today. There are a few things to finish up with the house on the shore and then we’re free and clear to close on the house here in King George.
We’ve scheduled the PODS to be delivered on the day of closing. We’re going to take that day and the next day off from work so we can get everything unloaded and into the house as fast as possible. We even bought a washer and dryer and we have that scheduled for delivery on the 1st. Everything is coming together. I just hope that there are no hangups or snags along the way.

Sarah left after the tour of the house to go hangout with her boyfriend, Brooks for a bit. She’s going back to The Burg (Harrisonburg, VA) for classes on Monday, but we’re going out there next weekend for Adrianne’s birthday and to see the homecoming game with my Mom and Dad.
Although there have been challenges since we moved here, things are going well for us and we’re adjusting to our new surroundings. We’re loving the new area, the new people, and our new surroundings. I think we’re going to be really happy here.
