When I was a kid, my favorite bedtime storybook was Adventure in the Dark. It was about a little mouse named Tippu who got lost in the woods and whose imagination ran away with him. He saw all sorts of scary things in the woods. There were ghosts, goblins, and other scary things that wanted to gobble him up.
By the end of the book, Father Mouse had come to find Tippu and take him home. Father Mouse had a lantern that shone light on everything that scared Tippu when he was alone in the dark woods. Things didn’t look so scary to Tippu when they were seen in a different light.
The artwork for the book was beautifully done and the story had a decidedly happy ending. I haven’t thought of this book in years, but reflecting on it now, it is one of my core memories. I’m sure the book is still at my parent’s house. The next time I’m there, I’m going to look for it.
