It is a univerally agreed upon and understood truth that people are the worst.
A person is not people. A person can generally considered to be intelligent, understanding, caring, thoughtful, and compassionate. People on the other hand, are ridiculous, narcissistic, indolent, short-sighted, and decietful. Of course, there are always exceptions to the rule. There are outliers on the bell-curve of every group. Some individuals are more compassionate than others and some are more like the anti-Christ than others.
Some people enjoy making others suffer. They don’t have to do this, it would be easier for them to leave well enough alone. Alas, people are the worst and will go out of their way to give others a rough time because they’re sadistic and want others to suffer. These are the worst of the worst in my opinion. They know how to push all the right buttons (or wrong ones, depending on your perspective) to spin someone else up. Their only motive in doing this is knowing that they rented out some area in your brain spaces and went for a walk in there.
There is one sure-fire way to combat against these sadists. Don’t let them rent out any room in your brain-spaces. For some people on the opposite end of the bell curve, that is easier said than done. I am one of those people, but I have a secret weapon I’m going to share with you. Memento Mori. That’s a latin phrase that loosely translates to, “Remember, you will die.” It is another universally agreed upon truth, however, it’s not as universally recognized as populus lactaverunt. What I mean is, most people go around their entire lives not thinking that one day their life will end. We only get so much time on this plane of existence before we will shuffle off this mortal coil. We don’t know when our time is going to end however everyone will eventually die.
“So people suck and we’re all going to die? Great, thanks for that secret weapon Eric!” Hold tight, I’m about to shed some positive, warm, golden, glowing, flowing energy on the subject for you.
The final universally agreed upon truth I want to bring up in this post is the first law of thermodynamics. “Energy can neither be created nor destroyed; energy can only be transferred or changed from one form to another,” (Carnot, Clausius, & Thomson, 1860). When we’re born, we recieve our energy from the universe, free choice lets us do what we want with the energy we’ve been given. Energy is finite; there’s only so much of it to go around. You won’t get any more or less than you’re due and you can’t give away more or less than you’ve been given. The only real choice you have is what you give your energy to. You can either give energy to the sadists, or you can give energy to something else, something positive, something actually worth your limited time and energy.
Today, one of the sadists tried to rent space in my coconut and go for a stroll. I tried to let things go and not be consumed by this individual’s behavior, but I couldn’t. I gave this individual more energy than they deserved. Then, I decided to turn my energy into something creative and positive. That is this blog post I’m sharing with all of you.
After some careful thought and if given the choice, I’d rather give my energy to worthwhile things and disregard the sadists. It’s not easy to do, but no one said life was easy. The universe is a wonderfully complicated and beautiful place. We only get one go around (as far as anyone can tell), and a finite amount of energy to interact with the universe. Isn’t it better to give that energy to things that are worth it instead of giving it to these energy vampires?
