Illegitimi non carborundum

Illegitimi non carborundum

Yesterday, I went to Lowe’s to pick up a few things I needed for around the house.  I thought while I was there I’d see if there were any Christmas decorations that would fit in nicely with the ones we have at the house already.  I walked into the store and they nearly sold out of all decorations, lights, and trees.  They were making room for all the things that go on sale for the upcoming Spring.  Back in October, I was in the same store for a similar trip and the place was brimming with holiday decor.  I couldn’t bring myself to buy anything then because it was October.  Now, two weeks before Christmas and I’m just getting the outside of the house decorated and there’s nothing available.  It seems like I’m being punished because I don’t like having the holidays crammed down my throat.

I’m not going to let this dampen my Christmas spirit.  It sucks to be sure, but no amount of complaining on my part is going to change how the big-box corporations peddle their crap to the masses.  I could either make my purchases before I know I need them, or, I could decide that things I thought were necessary aren’t.

The holidays (and life) aren’t about the things you need, the things you think you need, the things you want, the things you think you want, or the things you own.  The holidays are about making memories with family and friends and that’s what I intend to do with mine this year and every year afterward.  I hope you have an enjoyable holiday season, Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, and Happy Holidays.

Don’t let the bastards drag you down.
