Enjoy your burritos!

Enjoy your burritos!

Where does the time go? I woke up this morning and it was the first of October already! Happy spooky season all!

With everything going on in our world, it seems odd that we’re in October already. The monotony of quarantine this year made me feel like time crawled to a complete and utter stop. Since July, the time has flown by at warp speed.

I’ve often said that standing at any one moment in time and looking backwards one thinks, “Where did the time go?” Standing at that same point in time and looking forward, one thinks, “I’m never going to get there!” We can’t change the past but we think about it almost constantly. We can’t predict the future, but we’re always worried about what will happen. The sad part is, we’re not living in the moment that we find ourselves in which is all we really have. Being mindful helps with being in the present moment. This is something I struggle with constantly; hence the struggling Buddhist part of my bio. I think I haven’t been as mindful as I should have been this year, and that’s what has made it go by so quickly.

There’s nothing to do by continue to be mindful of each moment. Enjoy the present. Enjoy your burrito! Don’t be worried about what’s going to happen when the burrito is gone. That’s a problem for future you. Don’t look back wistfully at past burritos and how they’re no longer with you; that’s a problem you can’t solve, so why worry about it. You can think about the enjoyment all those burritos brought you, but not at the cost of missing out on the burrito right in front of you.

For those of you not in the know, Enjoy your burrito a the mantra of Chris Hardwick. He started Nerdist Industries, sold that and has now started up another podcast called ID10T. He has a great outlook on life and I hope one day when I grow up, I can be just like him.

It can be really difficult to focus on the present when there are so many good and bad things in our past and so many unknown things in our future. I like checking in with my body by doing breathing exercises when I feel I’m not in the present enough. Breathing really does help. Every breath is different, the body changes with each breath, and it’s a good way of staying mindful in the moment. Give it a try. Future you will thank you. And don’t forget to enjoy your burritos!
