Last night, we watched 15 minutes of the Presidential debate before we had to shut it off and walk away. We went to bed and were asleep ten minutes later.

This morning, social media is full of memes about the debate, but one thing I haven’t seen too much of, is how the moderator, Chris Wallace, failed to do his duty as moderator.

There were times in my mind when I thought President Trump was debating Chris Wallace more than former Vice President Joe Biden.

There were times in my mind when Chris Wallace only moderated the debate when Joe Biden said something so indefensible that he needed some support. Chris Wallace was that support. Only one debate is to be moderated by a conservative personality, and this was it. The other debates are to be moderated by liberal personalities. I hate to think what the President is going to have to do when he has to debate two liberals at the same time. Even President Trump noted this, he actually said, “First of all, I guess I’m debating you, not him…” To which, the moderator laughed at the President.

I get it, not everyone likes Trump. Believe it or not, I didn’t vote for Trump. But I think he’s our best chance right now. I also realize I’m not going to change anyone’s mind with this blog post. But what I cannot agree with is the fact that Joe Biden told the President of the United States to “shut up man”. I have never been more mortified in my life. The amount of unprofessionalism from all sides during this debate was ludicrous. Our country looks like a train wreck, the office of the President of the United States looks like a dumpster fire right now, and collectively, we look like a $#!^-show.

One other thing comes to mind. When Joe Biden called Donald Trump a racist last night, it made mt remember something I read about George Orwell some time ago. George Orwell commented that “the word ‘Fascism’ is almost entirely meaningless” and that “almost any English person would accept ‘bully’ as a synonym for ‘Fascist’”. I think the same thing could be considered now about the word racist.

Everyone is a little bit racist sometimes. But, not every goes out and acts upon those racist biases. The only legal racism in this country is affirmative action. That is a law that allows people to make decisions based on someone’s identity in a negative way. That law only works in one direction. Think about it.

I don’t believe anyone gained any ground last night. Debates are meant for people who don’t know which way they’re going to vote. People who want to vote for Biden came out last night and will vote for Biden. People who want to vote for Trump came out of last night and will vote for Trump. People who aren’t sure, still aren’t sure. Zero sum game.
