Every morning on the way to work, I listen to the weather and news articles that are curated for me. In between some of these things are advertisements. Yesterday I heard an advertisement for a company called Moink. At first, I thought I misheard it until today when the ad was repeated.
“As the founder and owner of Moink…I ain’t got time for a math mistake.”
No, I guess you don’t. Clearly, you have all the time in the world for grammar faux-pas.
I never heard of the company before, but I doubt I’ll try them out after the assault on my ears and brain-spaces I endured during my morning commute the last two days.
I get that you’re trying to get your product out there, build a rapport with your audience and customer base all while trying to be memorable, but why not also take a few extra moments to use proper grammar? Of course, things are different now compared to when I was growing up. We have words in the dictionary that would make my tenth-grade English teacher and Grandmother shudder with revulsion or scratch their head with confusion.
It just seems to me that the human race is taking the path of least resistance. No one seems to be putting effort into things anymore and no one seems to care.
Maybe I’m being too up-right about this? My standards aren’t everyone’s standards after all. I am a word-nerd; reading, writing, proofreading, increasing my lexicon, and knowledge of grammar is important to me. Words mean things.
